The life in the countryside is another life

I was lucky to seize a bit of that life.

For almost every childhood I vacationed at my grandparents’ house, usually one month per year.
Particularly their house was far from everything, there was only a grocery nearby and some neighbors who were all related, most were cousins and siblings of my grandparents.

However, it is a place with some privileges.
The air is fresh and clean, as the water that sometimes flows between stones or artesian wells.
The land is slightly higher than the surroundings, the sky is clear, the wind is strong.

Even the rain is different, usually at night, with strong wind gusts. The following day you wake up and know which direction the wind was blowing just seeing the direction that the tree point.

The darkest nights are the countryside nights, with low moonlight when you have the luck of have it full.

You can have the best of both worlds in those nights. The environment allows better visualization, from the horizon up brightness from the stars, from the horizon down the city lights.

Without the city noise, you find sounds that you never imagined. You hear the animals, plants, yourself, even silence you hear.

Country Life tastes natural juice, orange, lemon, mango, watermelon.

Homemade pasta, food prepared in the wood stove and roasted pine nuts on the plate.

Smells of land, forest and childhood.

Where our meat comes from?

I just thought that this video was disturbing and I may become a vegan now. Although there’s nothing in english, it gives a ”nice” view of how our food is made. If you are really sensitive about animals I would suggest you not to watch it. That’s it, bye.

Last weekend

I was dining at a friend’s house with others. Talking about past events, funny stories, strange moments and some nostalgic as well. By this time Diego tells the funniest story, of a time that we had not known each other yet.

Diego was spending a few days in a cousin’s house. One night his cousin was sleep earlier while Diego and other boys stayed in the hall playing video game.

Nobody knew that Diego’s cousin was a sleepwalker, even Diego.

Late at night, they hear the door opening, Diego’s cousin walks across the room and one of the guys asks:

         What’s up man?

Diego’s cousin walks to the shelf, takes a small toy carbine and respond:

         I’m going to war!

What??? – They say looking each other completely confused.

Diego‘s cousin walks up to the door, by checking it is locked, back to his father room and knocks at the door.

Boy! What do you want at this time?

         Dad, I’m going to war!

For sure, I will lead you to war.

Calm and peaceful, his father takes him back to bed.

On the following day, the guys couldn’t disguise the pride and satisfaction of having a truly patriotic friend, and greeted him bursting out laughing.

Time to work and take care the children

Did you have had time to appreciate the simple things of life like play with your kids or maybe to speak a long long time with them about nothing so important?

Or did you have had time only to work and work and your slogan is “work above all”?

Nowadays it´s possible observe that people are so busy and worried about how to be more and more productive at work that they are forgetting to give attention to their family.

What´s wrong with it? Well, we saw a lot of depressed people and children being raised by nannies or grandmothers because parents can´t “waste time” with their education.

Our globalized world brought a range of facilities but big troubles like depression, dissatisfaction and lonely children.

In the book “Society of Fatherless Children” Sérgio Sinai writer and sociologist said that this parents´ absence is creating materialistic and problematic kids.

He explain that the reason of drug addiction, youth violence and others risk behaviors are precisely the lack of dialogue and dedication and he also defends the idea that: “If there isn´t time, there isn´t quality” and complements: “To get quality at any task is necessary time, commitment and dedication”.

So if you are a workaholic people it´s time to change this now! Think about your daily habits and about what you can do to improve the relationship with your kids.

Everyone wins with this change: you´ll really see your children growing and with it they´ll become responsible and happy adults.

Think about it!

Machado de Assis

In the last week I finished the book “As Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas” by Machado de Assis, this book is very important for Brazilian literature, and now I understand why, it is a great book, although the reading is very heavy, because it was written on the last century. I want to share this experience with you, because is a good one.

I translate this little review to show you what have in this amazing book:

“The narrator-protagonist of the book is a man who is born in the nineteenth century Brazilian elite, that never worked or created something in his life. Dead, he decides to pass his memories with humor and irony, which also reveals an obscure Brazilian society.”

You read correctly, The narrator is a dead man who tells us his life. This book, and the others of Machado de Assis worth reading!
